5 Daily Fantasy Baseball Value Plays for 8/8/18
Brock Holt, SS, Boston Red Sox
Price: $2,100
With most of today's top value options priced up around $3,000, Brock Holt is worth a look if you need some especially big salary relief, as he's priced only $100 above the minimum. He doesn't offer anything special from the dish, with a .302 wOBA on the year, but his situation is favorable enough to create solid value at this price-point.
The Boston Red Sox are one of four teams on the main slate with an implied total above five (5.10), which means that -- as is often the case -- Holt's value gets a boost from the fact that he'll have plenty of opportunities to score runs and notch an RBI or two. He also draws a plus pitching matchup, as Mike Hauschild will be making his Toronto Blue Jays debut.
Hauschild has pitched only 14 innings in his first 2 Major League seasons, and that sample hasn't inspired much confidence, thanks to a 4.36 xFIP. He made 18 Triple-A starts last year and 19 in 2018, giving us a bigger sample to work with there. His numbers in the minors weren't pretty either, with a 4.99 xFIP last year and a 4.07 mark this season.
The Jays don't have a promising bullpen behind Hauschild either. If we just look at active rosters, Jays relievers have the sixth-worst xFIP in the Majors, at 4.30.
