The second-most expensive hitter on tonight's slate, Cody Bellinger of the Los Angeles Dodgers has ripped his way to 11 home runs and a 1.382 OPS on the young season. Equally up to the task, Jose Quintana of the Cubs will face L.A. and could stymie Bellinger's bat.
Quintana has induced a pile of weak contact this season -- he's allowed only two extra-base hits to lefties, and he's racked up an absurd 40.9% strikeout rate and a 10.0% fly-ball rate. His success against lefty bats is nothing new as he hasn't allowed an xFIP over 3.40 in the split for three straight seasons.
Bellinger has launched three long balls off lefties in 2019, but his 153 wRC+ is far lower than his 290 mark against righties, and last year he only posted an 88 wRC+ versus southpaws. In this difficult matchup, Bellinger may not be worth the pricey investment.
