5 Daily Fantasy Baseball Value Plays for 4/25/19
Jackie Bradley Jr., OF, Boston Red Sox
Price: $2,100
Like I said -- we want exposure to Boston today. Even if you're not stacking them (which is shockingly affordable), you'll want to get in on some piece of the action, and Jackie Bradley lets you do that for only $100 more than the minimum salary.
He has, plainly, been awful from the dish in 2019. His .183 wOBA is about as bad as you're going to see. But he's also suffering from a .216 batting average on balls in play (BABIP), which is miles below his .299 mark from last year or .295 career average. He's getting hit with the bad end of variance.
His contact hasn't been bad this year, either, with a 34.6% hard-hit rate that's just shy of his 35.6% career average, and his 13.5% soft-hit and 35.3% fly-ball rates are both better than his career norms. So with some BABIP regression, we can expect production around his career averages, which includes a .310 wOBA and a .164 ISO.
The platoon advantage against the right-handed Zimmermann gives him even more of a boost, as JBJ's wOBA jumps to .316 with a .181 ISO against right-handed pitching in his career. His low floor doesn't matter much at only $2,100, and his reasonable pop in a high-powered offense brings upside that is easy to like.
If you're looking to get weird, you can put together a mini-stack of lefty bats in the back half of the Sox' order by adding in Tzu-Wei Lin at $2,100.
He's only got a career-average .308 wOBA over 152 plate appearances in the majors, but he did turn in a solid .361 wOBA over 302 plate appearances in Triple-A last year, so there's some hope for him. He's also priced only $100 above the minimum, and if you're trying to get contrarian by not stacking the meaty part of the Boston lineup, getting exposure to three bats with the platoon advantage for an average of only $2,333.33 gives you some cheap upside.
