Although Jonathan Broxton has struggled mightily when he’s had to close this year, he’s been great when he doesn’t work in the ninth inning. Broxton’s allowed six earned runs in those 29 games he didn’t work past the eighth. Throughout those 27.2 innings he had a 1.99 ERA and walked seven of those batters.

Aroldis Chapman has had a shortened season as a result of the come-backer he took off the face earlier in the year. Chapman is 26 for 28 in save opportunities and he hasn’t blown a save since his last outing in June. Chapman’s K/9 is the highest among all pitchers who’ve thrown more than one inning on the season. Since July, he’s struck out 28 batters through 14.2 innings of work.
