Derek Holland, Texas Rangers

Derek Holland gets a few extra days of rest, continuing his recovery from a sore throwing shoulder. The southpaw gets to face an Astros team that's heavier on right-handed hitters with power, but he still has little to worry about if Astros manager A.J. Hinch gives his switch-hitters a chance from the right side of the plate. The numbers game could hurt Houston more than help, as Holland has held right-handed batters to a solid .250 average over the last three seasons.

Switch-hitting shortstop Jed Lowrie, catcher Hank Conger and outfield Robbie Grossman could be options to play, but are bad against lefties and don't see a lot of at-bats against southpaws. Catcher Jason Castro, infielder Luis Valbuena and outfielder Colby Rasmus are the other lefties that could be in the lineup despite Holland's handedness. None should scare you this early in the season though, making Holland a strong option. Houston struck out 369 times in 1,588 plate appearances while slugging .413 against left-handed pitchers last year, and if Holland can avoid giving up the long ball, he will be in line to get a win.
