6 Daily Fantasy Baseball Studs to Target on 5/10/16
Drew Smyly, P, Tampa Bay Rays
FanDuel Price: $9,400
Owner of a 3.36 SIERA over 434 2/3 career innings, Drew Smyly has always had the stuff, but injuries have held him back. He’s healthy now, and he’s sporting a 2.73 SIERA, 5.4 walk percentage and 31.5 strikeout percentage through 39 2/3 innings this season.
In short, he’s dominating.
Smyly has done it by limiting walks and becoming one of the game’s best at generating swings and misses, posting a sparkling 13.3 percent swinging strike rate. That mark ranks seventh in all of baseball, sandwiching Smyly between Masahiro Tanaka and Corey Kluber, also known as land of the elites.
Smyly did this to Mookie Betts earlier this season. Betts, for his career, owns a .346 wOBA and 13.6 strikeout percentage. He’s really good at baseball.

Smyly goes on the road Tuesday to face the Mariners, who have the second-lowest implied total of the day at 3.37 runs. Safeco Field rates as the fifth-best pitchers' park, according to three-year averages of ESPN’s Park Factors. A lefty, Smyly should be able to help neutralize Seattle slugger Robinson Cano, who isn’t quite as dangerous against same-sided pitchers with a career .337 wOBA versus southpaws.
We project Smyly to allow 2.16 earned runs on 5.24 hits while punching out 5.07 hitters in 5.94 innings of work. With a projected point total of 31.47, he’s our fifth-ranked hurler.
