4 Daily Fantasy Baseball Value Plays for 5/20/16
David Wright, 3B, New York Mets
FanDuel Price: $2,700
David Wright is a radically different hitter in 2016 than he has been in the past. While it's not necessarily a good thing, it does make him way more fun for DFS.
Wright seems to be sacrificing strikeouts in order to make more solid contact. Whether or not that's his true intent, that's what his numbers show. He has a 33.6% strikeout rate, well beyond his previous career high of 24.0%, but it has come with a 44.9% hard-hit rate, also his career high. His 8.7% soft-hit rate is the lowest of his career, meaning he's basically nothing like the David Wright of yesteryear. That new repertoire gives him higher upside, though, and facing a low-strikeout pitcher like the Milwaukee Brewers' Wily Peralta should help.
Peralta holds a 12.8% strikeout rate for the season, and it has actually fallen a bit to 11.4% over his last four starts. It doesn't fully eliminate the strikeout concerns with Wright, but it does cut them down significantly. And when we can worry less about Wright's strikeouts and just bask in his glorious batted-ball stats, that's a recipe for delight.
