In his age-35 campaign, Adam Wainwright is having his worst year since his rookie season. His 4.27 SIERA is his highest mark since 2007, and his 18.4% strikeout rate is below his career average of 20.5%.

With that said, things have been better lately. Wainwright posted a 25.1% strikeout rate and 7.4% walk rate in June, and he is sporting a 22.4% strikeout rate and 5.9% walk rate so far in July.

Wainwright has also been significantly better at home this year. In his outings at Busch Stadium, he’s giving up a .259 wOBA, compared to a .360 wOBA on the road.

He gets an enticing home matchup tonight against the San Diego Padres. Wil Myers is going off, but the rest of the Padres’ lineup has been pretty quiet. San Diego ranks 27th in wOBA (.303) and 29th in strikeout rate (24.4%).
