3 Daily Fantasy Baseball Hitters to Avoid on 8/24/16
As is the case in most daily fantasy sports, finding information on players you might want to roster is a lot easier than finding players to avoid.
While you can get away with a zero from a hitter in daily fantasy, you certainly don't want to target guys whose matchups aren't enticing.
Here are three hitters you may want to lessen your exposure to or even fade altogether on Wednesday.
Lorenzo Cain, OF, Kansas City Royals
FanDuel Price: $3,200
Lorenzo Cain has been smashing the ball. He is hitting .529 in his last nine games with nine RBI’s and an average of 15.3 FanDuel points per game. While he has been red-hot lately, tonight is not a good matchup.
Cain is up against the flame-throwing Jose Fernandez, who has been as tough as any pitcher in the league against right-handed hitters. Righties have a .242 wOBA and 44.5% strikeout rate against Fernandez this season. With a hard hit rate of just 29.4% against righties, Cain looks like a player you might want to avoid for Wednesday.
Cain has just a .288 wOBA and 22.3% strikeout rate against right-handed pitchers this season. His hard-hit and fly-ball rates are both below 30%, while his ISO drops from .426 against lefties to just .083 against righties.
Wilmer Flores, 3B, New York Mets
FanDuel Price: $2,500
Wilmer Flores had a big home run last night against the St. Louis Cardinals. While he has been somewhat of a boom-or-bust fantasy player since taking over third base duties for the New York Mets, he might lean towards bust tonight against Carlos Martinez.
The Cardinals’ righty has been devastatingly good against right-handers this season with righties owning a .229 wOBA against him. Martinez has a 24.2% strikeout rate and is allowing just a 22.4% hard hit rate against righties. Considering Martinez has allowed only two homers and eight total extra-base hits to righties this season, Flores is not a player you want to target.
Flores has just a .263 wOBA this season against right-handers, and his ISO falls to .109 against them. With a hard-hit rate of just 22.6% against other righties, don’t expect Flores to hit well tonight.
Scott Schebler, OF, Cincinnati Reds
FanDuel Price: $2,700
Scott Schebler has been a mixed bag since getting called up earlier in the season. He is hitting for power with 4 homers and 18 RBI’s in just 135 at-bats, but he also has a 26.4% strikeout rate and .268 wOBA this year.
While Schebler hasn’t been in the bigs long, his splits are a little concerning. The Reds’ lefty has just a .259 wOBA against righties with a 28.8% strikeout rate.
He's not facing just any righty today; he's up against Yu Darvish.
Darvish has been very good against left-handers this season, making Schebler a player to avoid. Lefties have a .260 wOBA and 33.9% strikeout rate against Darvish in 2016. Don’t expect much from Schebler tonight.
