4 Daily Fantasy Baseball Stacks for 5/25/17
Stacking can be a controversial topic in many daily fantasy sports, but you can count baseball as a glaring exception. Here, it's universal.
Using multiple players on the same team on a given day presents you with the opportunity to double dip. If one of your players hits an RBI double, there's a good chance he drove in another one of your guys. When you get the points for both the run and the RBI, you'll be climbing the leaderboards fast.
Each day here on numberFire, we'll go through four offenses ripe for the stacking. They could have a great matchup, be in a great park, or just have a lot of quality sticks in the lineup, but these are the offenses primed for big days that you may want a piece of.
Premium members can use our new stacking feature to customize their stacks within their optimal lineups for the day, choosing the team you want to stack and how many players you want to include. You can also check out our hitting heat map, which provides an illustration of which offenses have the best combination of matchup and potency.
Now, let's get to the stacks. With the split slates, we'll be focusing exclusively on the main slate beginning at 7 pm Eastern. Here are the teams you should be targeting in daily fantasy baseball today.
Arizona Diamondbacks
There is only one team on this slate facing a pitcher who both struggles to get strikeouts and suppress hard contact. That would be the Arizona Diamondbacks in their venture to Miller Park, so you knew they had to sit atop this list.
Milwaukee Brewers starter Zach Davies was solid in 2016, earning almost all of his respectable 3.97 ERA. Each of his most important peripherals has slid in the wrong direction this year, though, making him a stacking target.
Season | Strikeout Rate | Walk Rate | Ground-Ball Rate | Hard-Hit Rate |
---|---|---|---|---|
2016 | 19.8% | 5.6% | 45.5% | 33.8% |
2017 | 17.5% | 9.0% | 40.7% | 34.6% |
Davies still has talent, so he's certainly not a lost cause, but those numbers aren't reflecting the skills yet. Until they do, opposing bats are in play for DFS.
For some fun, let's play a game. Here are the batted-ball numbers of a random hitter on the Diamondbacks against right-handed pitchers this year. Can you guess who he is?
Versus RHP | Hard-Hit Rate | Soft-Hit Rate | Fly-Ball Rate |
---|---|---|---|
Mystery Hitter | 36.6% | 8.5% | 25.9% |
That dude looks like a pretty good hitter. Sure, it'd be great if he could toss in an extra fly ball or two, but he's consistently making good contact.
That guy is Chris Owings, their speedy, stolen-base-loving shortstop who will cost you just $2,900 on FanDuel. Ya dig? Owings is known for his hot start and his speed, but his peripheral numbers say that he's still playing really solid baseball. The hope here is that he winds up hitting at a high-leverage spot in the order so we can shove him in and bet on the talent. It's worth watching where Brandon Drury and Daniel Descalso hit, too, as they could be solid value sources with good batted-ball stats against righties this year.
