4 Daily Fantasy Baseball Stacks for 6/7/17

Stacking can be a controversial topic in many daily fantasy sports, but you can count baseball as a glaring exception. Here, it's universal.

Using multiple players on the same team on a given day presents you with the opportunity to double dip. If one of your players hits an RBI double, there's a good chance he drove in another one of your guys. When you get the points for both the run and the RBI, you'll be climbing the leaderboards fast.

Each day here on numberFire, we'll go through four offenses ripe for the stacking. They could have a great matchup, be in a great park, or just have a lot of quality sticks in the lineup, but these are the offenses primed for big days that you may want a piece of.

Now, let's get to the stacks. Here are the teams you should be targeting in daily fantasy baseball today.

St. Louis Cardinals

"Hey, isn't this the team that just burned us two days ago?" Why, yes. Yes, it is. In fact, the St. Louis Cardinals have burned a whole lotta people the last three weeks, ranking 29th in wRC+ and topping only the San Diego Padres in that span. But even in that stretch, they are sixth in hard-hit rate, which is enough to get us to go down with the ship again as they face Bronson Arroyo.

Arroyo doesn't quite check every box on our stacking wish list with his walk rate being totally acceptable at 6.7%. Everything else aligns perfectly. His SIERA is 5.31 with a 14.2% strikeout rate and 7.9% swinging-strike rate. That leads to gobs of balls in play, and they're usually valuable ones with his hard-hit rate at 35.2% and a 48.7% fly-ball rate. As Scooter Gennett showed last night, good things can happen when you loft the ball at Great American Ballpark. We just need some of his deliciousness to rub off on the opposition.

As a result of this wretched stretch, a bunch of Cardinals hitters are suddenly cheaper than they were just two days ago. Chief among them is Matt Carpenter, who is down to $3,000 on FanDuel after being $3,700 on Monday. That all makes sense when you see that his slugging percentage for the season has dipped below .400 (to .396). A lot of that seems to be related to luck, though, when you peep his batted-ball stats. Below is a comparison of his true season stats to his expected numbers based on his Statcast data with the projections coming from xStats.org.

Even in the worst part of his slump, Carpenter has been striking the ball well with a 42.3% hard-hit rate and 54.0% fly-ball rate the past three weeks. This dude is good, and his batted-ball profile is ideal for this park. Keep plugging him in through the struggles.
