4 Daily Fantasy Baseball Stacks for 6/15/17
Stacking can be a controversial topic in many daily fantasy sports, but you can count baseball as a glaring exception. Here, it's universal.
Using multiple players on the same team on a given day presents you with the opportunity to double dip. If one of your players hits an RBI double, there's a good chance he drove in another one of your guys. When you get the points for both the run and the RBI, you'll be climbing the leaderboards fast.
Each day here on numberFire, we'll go through four offenses ripe for the stacking. They could have a great matchup, be in a great park, or just have a lot of quality sticks in the lineup, but these are the offenses primed for big days that you may want a piece of.
Premium members can use our new stacking feature to customize their stacks within their optimal lineups for the day, choosing the team you want to stack and how many players you want to include. You can also check out our hitting heat map, which provides an illustration of which offenses have the best combination of matchup and potency.
Now, let's get to the stacks. With the split slates, we'll be focusing exclusively on the main slate beginning at 7 pm Eastern time. As always, today's game at Coors Field will not be included in these recommendations. You likely already know bats there are in a great spot and don't need us to tell you. Here are the other teams you should be targeting in daily fantasy baseball today.
Detroit Tigers
The top two teams in hard-hit rate against righties are both in the same spot, as the Detroit Tigers square off with the Tampa Bay Rays. And they're both facing pitchers who struggle with suppressing that exact same thing. That 9.5 over/under could be generous, so you can bet we'll be slobbering over both teams, starting with the Tigers.
They're going up against Alex Cobb, who doesn't seem to be all the way back to his old self after undergoing Tommy John surgery in May of 2015. He hasn't regained the high ground-ball rate he had before the injury, and his strikeout rate is down to 16.8%. And, yes, there's hard contact. Opponents have a 38.3% hard-hit rate when facing him with just a 12.9% soft-hit rate. Cobb is a good pitcher who just had rough timing with his surgery, taking him out of commission right at the start of his prime. Ideally, he'll turn things around soon. Until then, bats are in play against him.
Within the top six spots in the Tigers' order, the cheapest bat resides in the clean-up spot. That's Victor Martinez at $3,200 on FanDuel. Given his knee issues in the past, it'd be fair, then, to question whether his price was low due to performance. Although his results partially validate that concern, his peripheral stats do not.
Don't let the 88 wRC+ against righties fool you; this dude is slangin'. Martinez's 45.5% hard-hit rate would be a career high, and his fly-ball rate is 39.4%. He's doing that while striking out just 14.0% of the time. There's an opportunity cost in using Martinez because it means you can't roster Miguel Cabrera, but we'll need the $500 savings if we want to afford Chris Sale tonight. Martinez is a solid player to build around if you're stacking the Tigers.
