4 Daily Fantasy Baseball Stacks for 7/19/17

Stacking can be a controversial topic in many daily fantasy sports, but you can count baseball as a glaring exception. Here, it's universal.

Using multiple players on the same team on a given day presents you with the opportunity to double dip. If one of your players hits an RBI double, there's a good chance he drove in another one of your guys. When you get the points for both the run and the RBI, you'll be climbing the leaderboards fast.

Each day here on numberFire, we'll go through four offenses ripe for the stacking. They could have a great matchup, be in a great park, or just have a lot of quality sticks in the lineup, but these are the offenses primed for big days that you may want a piece of.

Now, let's get to the stacks. With the split slates, we'll be focusing exclusively on the main slate beginning at 7 pm Eastern. Here are the teams you should be targeting in daily fantasy baseball today.

Baltimore Orioles

The Baltimore Orioles do not have a good offense against left-handed pitchers. They didn't last year, and they don't in 2017, sitting 20th in wRC+ against lefties. But they can make loud contact, sitting second in hard-hit rate, and that's going to be hard to come by on this slate. We should be targeting them against Martin Perez as a result.

The big reason the Orioles struggle against lefties is that they strikeout a ton and never draw walks. Perez, however, is rarely able to exploit that first weakness. His strikeout rate on the year is 15.4%, a low mark that his 7.3% swinging-strike rate fully validates. He has allowed a 35.6% hard-hit rate with just a 14.1% soft-hit rate, so although Perez's ground-ball rate is above the American League average at 45.7%, hitters can still do damage against him. This makes the Orioles acceptable despite their shortcomings.

Last week here on numberFire, we took a look at the value of a hard-hit ball and found that the returns from a hard-hit fly ball dwarf those of any other batted-ball event. It just so happens that a player on the Orioles provides a whole lotta those puppies, and it may not be the guy you expect.

There are currently 242 batters who have hit at least 50 fly balls this year. Only four have higher hard-hit rates on those flies than Trey Mancini. The four guys ahead of him are just some dudes named Paul Goldschmidt, Aaron Judge, Michael Conforto, and Khris Davis. And yet you can snag Mancini for $2,800 on FanDuel. He'll likely hit sixth, but that's not enough to draw us away from this budding stud in what appears to be a plus matchup.
