4 Daily Fantasy Baseball Stacks for 7/20/17
Stacking can be a controversial topic in many daily fantasy sports, but you can count baseball as a glaring exception. Here, it's universal.
Using multiple players on the same team on a given day presents you with the opportunity to double dip. If one of your players hits an RBI double, there's a good chance he drove in another one of your guys. When you get the points for both the run and the RBI, you'll be climbing the leaderboards fast.
Each day here on numberFire, we'll go through four offenses ripe for the stacking. They could have a great matchup, be in a great park, or just have a lot of quality sticks in the lineup, but these are the offenses primed for big days that you may want a piece of.
Premium members can use our new stacking feature to customize their stacks within their optimal lineups for the day, choosing the team you want to stack and how many players you want to include. You can also check out our hitting heat map, which provides an illustration of which offenses have the best combination of matchup and potency.
Now, let's get to the stacks. With the split slates, we'll be focusing exclusively on the main slate beginning at 7 pm Eastern. Here are the teams you should be targeting in daily fantasy baseball today.
Texas Rangers
Five-game slates make you do things that'll force you to feel all dirty inside. For example, you could stack a team that is 27th in wRC+ and 24th in hard-hit rate against the handedness of the opposing starter. Sounds grimy, right?
We be doing that today, y'all. The Texas Rangers have been brutal versus lefties, but when they're facing Wade Miley on a short slate, it's a burden we'll just have to accept.
To be honest, this is something we could even justify on a larger slate with how poor Miley has been recently. He has allowed seven earned runs in two of his past three starts, and his SIERA has ballooned to 4.97. When we omit the witchcraft he was dealing in April, his SIERA slides on up to 5.22 with a 14.8% strikeout rate, 11.6% walk rate, and 32.6% hard-hit rate. Sub-Gucci. That's enough to get us excited even when the opponent is just flailing when a southpaw's on the bump.
Anecdotally, the Rangers' struggles also make sense. They've got a good number of lefties in their lineup, and most of the righties -- Adrian Beltre, Mike Napoli, and Carlos Gomez -- have spent time on the disabled list. In the past calendar year, those three specifically have been solid contributors in this department.
Versus LHP | Hard-Hit Rate | Fly-Ball Rate | Position | FanDuel Price |
---|---|---|---|---|
Adrian Beltre | 45.6% | 42.6% | 3B | $3,500 |
Mike Napoli | 38.4% | 45.3% | 1B | $2,900 |
Carlos Gomez | 26.7% | 41.9% | OF | $2,900 |
Another name to monitor is Robinson Chirinos. He caught last night, so it seems likely that Jonathan Lucroy will be behind the dish tonight, but Chirinos has a 43.8% hard-hit rate and 56.3% fly-ball rate in 52 plate appearances against lefties the past calendar year. If he winds up playing, Chirinos isn't a bad option at catcher.
