4 Daily Fantasy Baseball Stacks for 7/28/17
Stacking can be a controversial topic in many daily fantasy sports, but you can count baseball as a glaring exception. Here, it's universal.
Using multiple players on the same team on a given day presents you with the opportunity to double dip. If one of your players hits an RBI double, there's a good chance he drove in another one of your guys. When you get the points for both the run and the RBI, you'll be climbing the leaderboards fast.
Each day here on numberFire, we'll go through four offenses ripe for the stacking. They could have a great matchup, be in a great park, or just have a lot of quality sticks in the lineup, but these are the offenses primed for big days that you may want a piece of.
Premium members can use our new stacking feature to customize their stacks within their optimal lineups for the day, choosing the team you want to stack and how many players you want to include. You can also check out our hitting heat map, which provides an illustration of which offenses have the best combination of matchup and potency.
Now, let's get to the stacks. Here are the teams you should be targeting in daily fantasy baseball today.
Texas Rangers
We haven't gotten to see much of Chris Tillman recently, both with the All-Star break and the birth of his child. What we have seen has been much better than the pre-July version of Tillman. The question, though, is whether it's enough to start avoiding him with stacks in DFS.
In these two games, Tillman has faced some pretty snazzy offenses, one being these same Texas Rangers and the other being the Houston Astros. The good is that he allowed just four total earned runs in those outings, and he had no walks in one of them. The bad is that he had four walks in the other start compared to just three strikeouts. His swinging-strike rate increased to 9.4%, and he allowed less hard contact, but these two starts shouldn't necessarily change the way we view him. If Tillman continues to make strides in his next couple of starts, then we'll have to reevaluate. But with this being his second start against the Rangers in a three-start stretch, we should be comfortable giving it one more shot.
With Tillman's platoon splits, which side you prefer depends on what you want most in your hitters. If you want them to avoid strikeouts and draw walks, you want the lefties. If you want them to have a higher strikeout risk while rocking a 36.9% hard-hit rate and 41.3% fly-ball rate, you want the righties. One of those righties would happily oblige in either the strikeouts or the massive dingers.

In 129 plate appearances since returning from the disabled list, Mike Napoli has a 46.5% hard-hit rate and 66.2% fly-ball rate. He has also struck out 32.6% of the time. So, for cash games, it's likely best to look elsewhere and favor the lefties in the Rangers' order, but for tournaments, Napoli's a heartthrob whom we can buy for $3,000 on FanDuel.
