4 Daily Fantasy Baseball Stacks for 9/12/17
Stacking can be a controversial topic in many daily fantasy sports, but you can count baseball as a glaring exception. Here, it's universal.
Using multiple players on the same team on a given day presents you with the opportunity to double dip. If one of your players hits an RBI double, there's a good chance he drove in another one of your guys. When you get the points for both the run and the RBI, you'll be climbing the leaderboards fast.
Each day here on numberFire, we'll go through four offenses ripe for the stacking. They could have a great matchup, be in a great park, or just have a lot of quality sticks in the lineup, but these are the offenses primed for big days that you may want a piece of.
Premium members can use our new stacking feature to customize their stacks within their optimal lineups for the day, choosing the team you want to stack and how many players you want to include. You can also check out our hitting heat map, which provides an illustration of which offenses have the best combination of matchup and potency.
Now, let's get to the stacks.
Chicago Cubs
The Chicago Cubs are in a free fall as we get to the home stretch -- their lead in the NL Central has been trimmed all the way down to 2.0 games over the St. Louis Cardinals and 2.5 games over the Milwaukee Brewers. However, they will look to widen that lead with a matchup against Robert Gsellman of the New York Mets.
The right-hander has struggled over 97 2/3 innings pitched this year, recording a 4.84 SIERA to go along with a 32.1% hard-hit rate. Left-handed batters have given Gsellman the biggest problems in 2017 -- they have notched a .355 wOBA, 1.67 home runs per nine innings pitched, a 32.7%% hard-hit rate, and a 30.1% fly-ball rate against him.
On Sunday, when the Milwaukee Brewers started righty Zach Davies, the Cubs stacked the top of their lineup with lefties Jon Jay ($2,500) and Tommy La Stella ($2,000), and given Gsellman's struggles in this situation, that could make a great option. Saving cash will also be key to affording Anthony Rizzo, who has hot lately.

Over the last 14 days, Rizzo ($3,900) has recorded a .383 wOBA, a 46.0% hard-hit rate, and a 35.1% fly-ball rate. He's definitely a stick we want as part of this stack.
To stay lefty heavy, check if Alex Avila ($2,500) is in the lineup. Willson Contreras has returned and could eat into some playing time for Avila, but if not, Avila has been a boss against righties in 2017, posting a 54.8% hard-hit rate against them.
