FanDuel Daily Fantasy Baseball Helper: Thursday 8/9/18
We may only have six games on Thursday's main slate, but we still have some tough choices to make tonight. Pricey aces in Justin Verlander and James Paxton will compete for our fantasy dollars against a Coors Field tilt between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Colorado Rockies, along with juicy matchups for the New York Yankees, and Boston Red Sox.
Our daily helper is available every day to analyze FanDuel's main slate and help give you a starting point when you're building lineups. Be sure to also incorporate our great tools into your research process. Whether you're looking for daily projections, the latest starting lineups and weather, or batting and pitching heat maps to find the best matchups -- we've got you covered! And don't forget to take a listen to The Solo Shot podcast with Jim Sannes, who breaks down the MLB daily fantasy slate each day.
On that note, let's highlight some of the top options for today's FanDuel main slate.
Pitchers to Target
High-Priced Pitchers
Justin Verlander ($11,800 on FanDuel): The Seattle Mariners aren't necessarily the best matchup, but it might not matter considering how dynamite Justin Verlander has been this year. Verlander is posting a 2.74 SIERA, 33.7% strikeout rate and 4.6% walk rate, and at age 35, he's amazingly putting forth perhaps his best season yet. Verlander may be a fly-ball pitcher, but the batted-ball marks check the right boxes, too, with a 28.6% hard-hit rate and 21.3% soft-hit rate. The Mariners have a slate-low 2.92 implied team total, and Verlander's high salary is the only reason you should have any hesitation in rostering him tonight.
