4 Daily Fantasy Baseball Stacks for 9/11/18
Stacking can be a controversial topic in many daily fantasy sports, but you can count baseball as a glaring exception. Here, it's universal.
Using multiple players on the same team on a given day presents you with the opportunity to double dip. If one of your players hits an RBI double, there's a good chance he drove in another one of your guys. When you get the points for both the run and the RBI, you'll be climbing the leaderboards fast.
Each day here on numberFire, we'll go through four offenses ripe for the stacking. They could have a great matchup, be in a great park, or just have a lot of quality sticks in the lineup, but these are the offenses primed for big days that you may want a piece of.
Premium members can use our new stacking feature to customize their stacks within their optimal lineups for the day, choosing the team you want to stack and how many players you want to include. You can also check out our hitting heat map, which provides an illustration of which offenses have the best combination of matchup and potency.
Now, let's get to the stacks.
Oakland Athletics
The Baltimore Orioles have lost over 100 games this season, and Alex Cobb cannot be absolved from at least part of the blame. He has just a 7.4% swinging-strike rate to go with his poor 4.63 SIERA on the year.
The Oakland Athletics rank second in fly-ball rate (39.5%) and first in hard-hit rate (39.8%) against right-handed pitching. Thanks to their tremendous ability to hit the ball hard, they rank third in wRC+ against right-handed pitching, boasting a 111 mark.
Khris Davis ($4,200) has posted a wRC+ of at least 120 in each of the past four seasons. This season, he is sitting on a 135 mark thanks to a 47.9% fly-ball rate and 46.0% hard-hit rate. Matt Chapman ($4,000) has recorded 6.5 WAR this season. While a lot of that has come from his defense, almost no player is that valuable without being a good hitter as well. Chapman is no exception, as he's got a 40.6% fly-ball rate and 44.2% hard-hit rate this year.
The switch-hitting Jed Lowrie ($3,800) enters play with a 141 wRC+ against right-handed pitching, including a 43.8% fly-ball rate and 37.6% hard-hit rate. Matt Olson ($3,600) is basically Joey Gallo but with a reduced amount of strikeouts. He's got a 45.7% fly-ball rate and 49.6% hard-hit rate against right-handed pitching this year, including a palatable 25.6% strikeout rate in that split.
Stephen Piscotty ($3,600) has cut his strikeout rate to 18.7% while hitting the ball hard 41.7% of the time, and Mark Canha ($3,000) has plenty of power upside, especially at that price, thanks to a 41.2% fly-ball rate and 37.4% hard-hit rate.
