Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Adds: Week 19

It's waiver time. One of the keys to any fantasy success is not only nailing your draft, but scouring that waiver wire for players who can give your team a boost. Even though fantasy baseball can be a really long season, it's key to search those waivers and take it week-by-week to cement your fantasy status.

The four players below are all owned in fewer than 50% of Yahoo leagues and could give your team a lift.

Scott Oberg - Colorado Rockies (RP)

Yahoo Ownership: 42%

The closer carousel in Colorado has taken many twists and turns this year, but we know one thing, at least for now -- this is Scott Oberg's job. Due to recent struggles from incumbent closer Wade Davis, the Rox have once again removed Davis from the role and have given it to Oberg.

When investing in a closer like Oberg, it's fair to point out that you are simply purchasing the commodity of saves as Oberg is unlikely to give you many outstanding peripherals. He has a pretty average 26.5% strikeout rate (by closer's standards), and his 10.3% walk rate can get him into some tricky jams.

He does possess a solid batted-ball profile with a 31.8% hard-hit rate and 31.0% fly-ball rate, along with a nice 12.3% swinging-strike rate. Add all these things together, and you'll pay for what you get -- a solid yet unspectacular closer who is likely to rack up some key numbers in a counting category. Go nab him.

Mike Yastrzemski - San Francisco Giants (OF)

A month ago, the San Francisco Giants would likely have been sellers at the trade deadline -- heck, they probably still should have been. But as they continue to be a nuisance in the Wild Card race, they decided to stand pat, and one of the reasons for that is the production outfielder Mike Yastrzemski.

If you are unsure who the tricky-lettered outfielder is, peep some of these juicy numbers: a .226 isolated power (ISO), 10 homers, a .503 slugging percentage, and a 42.8% hard-hit rate. Not bad young fella -- not bad.

After spending six years in the Baltimore Orioles' farm system, Yastrzemski came over to the Bay Area and gotten regular playing time. And while he hasn't done much running in 2019, he has a little bit of speed, as well, notching eight steals last year and 14 steals in 2016.

Bo Bichette - Toronto Blue Jays (SS)

The youth movement has continued in Toronto, with Bo Bichette being called up. If you haven't taken notice, dude has been absolutely raking upon reaching the bigs.

While an injury delayed his inevitable call-up, he has been making up for lost time. He's flashed solid pop at each level, but his biggest asset -- for fantasy -- might be his speed as he stole a career-best 32 bases in 2017.

He has also been thrown right into the mix, primarily occupying the leadoff spot in the batting order. If you are looking for a difference maker at a tough position like shortstop, Bo knows.

Drew Smyly - Philadelphia Phillies (SP)

The Philadelphia Phillies didn't make moves that turned many heads at the deadline, but they did add veterans Jason Vargas and Drew Smyly. And after his last two turns in the rotation, Smyly is worthy of some serious attention for our fantasy rosters.

In his first outing, the southpaw fired six dominant innings, whiffing eight Pittsburgh Pirates and allowing only a single earned run. He followed up that brilliant performance with seven goose eggs against the San Francisco Giants, fanning five en route to a victory.

With a 6.85 ERA this season, Smyly may not stick out as an obvious add. His 12.5% walk rate has certainly caused some issues, and his 47.4% hard-hit rate isn't doing him any favors, either. These last two outings could be a flash in the pan, or they could be a sign that he's figured some things out. Tread cautiously, but Smyly could give your fantasy rotations a nice lift down the stretch.
