3 Daily Fantasy Baseball Stacks for 9/21/20

When an offense hangs runs in bunches, it means hitters are scoring runs and teammates hitting behind them are driving them in. By rostering stacks, you’re maximizing the fantasy scoring by essentially double dipping on a run-scoring event.

Without further ado, let’s dive into today’s main slate’s featured stacks.
Atlanta Braves
There are two lineup builds I like tonight. One is around stud ace Jacob deGrom, and the other is pivoting down to German Marquez. The former makes it nearly impossible to roster all of the top stacking options from the Atlanta Braves, but the latter opens the door for a Braves stack.
The Braves will be taking cuts tonight against rookie southpaw Trevor Rogers. The 22-year-old lefty has a 6.00 ERA and has allowed 2.14 homers per nine innings in five starts spanning 21 innings, per FanGraphs. Right-handed hitters have totaled a .566 slugging and .359 weighted on-base average (wOBA) against him.
The gaudy slugging number is eye-catching, and it could bite him in the butt against a lineup filed with big-power hitters. Adam Duvall ($3,200) immediately comes to mind with a .267 isolated power (ISO) against southpaws since 2017, and a .337 ISO and 16 homers this year. Cleanup hitter Travis d'Arnaud ($3,200) is also a great stacking option with a .219 ISO against lefties since 2017 and a .400 OBP, .231 ISO, and 156 weighted runs created plus (wRC+) overall this year.
Beyond those two, the quartet of Ronald Acuna ($4,500), Marcell Ozuna ($4,200), Freddie Freeman ($4,100), and Ozzie Albies ($3,900) are all great plays tonight -- albeit at salaries that are prohibitive to also rostering deGrom, as I previously noted. For gamers who want to have their cake and eat it too, consider using Duvall and d'Arnaud with deGrom while stacking one of the forthcoming teams.
Miami Marlins
The Braves are the higher-profile stacking option in Atlanta tonight, but the Miami Marlins aren't slouches in their own right. They also have a favorable matchup. Huascar Ynoa has been rocked to the tune of a 5.30 ERA and 5.40 skill-interactive ERA (SIERA) in 18 and 2/3 innings pitched this season. The 22-year-old righty is also responsible for a bloated .385 expected wOBA (xwOBA), much higher than the league average 335 xwOBA, according to Baseball Savant.
The righty has struggled in same-handed matchups, coughing up a .524 slugging and .359 wOBA to right-handed batters this year. With those struggles in mind, I'm honing in on Starling Marte ($3,200), Jesus Aguilar ($3,100), and Brian Anderson ($3,000) while also considering Garrett Cooper ($3,200). Marte's been the best hitter of the bunch against righties since 2017 with a 121 wRC+, and Aguilar's hit for the most thump during that time frame with a .228 ISO.
Anderson's my favorite member of the trio, though. He's made improvements at the dish every year in the Majors, and he's posting new highs across the board this season. Additionally, he's at his best on the road in his career, and he's raking in road tilts this year with a .398 OBP, .234 ISO, and 144 wRC+.
Houston Astros
Marco Gonzales is sporting a 3.49 ERA and 3.82 SIERA. Those numbers don't scream "stack against me," but the Houston Astros are long on hitters with track records of success against southpaws. On a six-game slate, they're an intriguing stacking option despite the tough matchup.
It starts at the top with George Springer ($3,700). He hit a couple of homers and stole a base yesterday, and Sunday's effort brings his season-long marks to 13 homers, a .345 OBP, .276 ISO, and 138 wRC+. Jose Altuve ($3,100) has scuffled most of the year, but his .375 OBP, .209 ISO, and 141 wRC+ against lefties since 2017 put him on the stacking radar from the two-hole in Houston's order.
Alex Bregman ($3,600) owns the best numbers of Houston's hitters against lefties since 2017 with a .420 OBP, .293 ISO, and 179 wRC+. He's not having a great year by his standards, but his .358 OBP and 121 wRC+ are rock solid.
The others I'm digging from the lineup include Yulieski Gurriel ($2,600), Kyle Tucker ($3,400), and Carlos Correa ($2,700). Tucker might stand out like a sore thumb in the trio as the only left-handed hitter of the three, but he's hit for above-average power in lefty-lefty matchups in his young career with a .221 ISO.
