American League vs National League
National League Moneyline -116
The National League should have a major advantage in the pitching matchup in this game and it should make them the betting favorites. Both teams have some top pitchers listed as unavailable but the American League pitching is somewhat lacking given the absence of Shane Bieber and Gerrit Cole.
The available starting pitchers for the American League roster include Shohei Ohtani, Nathan Eovaldi, Kyle Gibson, Lance Lynn, and Carlos Rodon. This group had a single combined All-Star appearance before this season, so while all these players are having amazing seasons, none of them have an extensive track record.
The American League could also have a slight disadvantage with Shohei Ohtani starting, as he could experience some fatigue after participating in yesterday’s home run derby. Ohtani does appear to be a superhuman phenomenon, so it may not impact his performance as much as most, but it is certainly something to consider.
American League Under 5 Runs +100
The American League may not have the pitching quality of a typical All-Star team but the National League certainly does, and they will be throwing enough quality arms out there to keep the American League in check.
The National League can choose from Zack Wheeler, Trevor Rogers, Walker Buehler, Freddy Peralta, and Taijuan Walker all of whom are in the top 10 in the league in ERA this season. The National League backs that up with an incredible bullpen of Josh Hader, Craig Kimbrel, Alex Reyes, and Mark Melancon, all of whom have ERAs of 2.04 or lower.
It’s been difficult for teams to score in the All-Star game, as pitching usually prevails. The losing team has only scored more than four runs in one of the last 14 MLB All-Star games. If the NL is going to win this game, then the AL will very likely be under the 5.0 run mark for the game.
