3 MLB FanDuel Studs to Target on Monday 9/27/21
Just like in other sports, the focal point of your daily fantasy baseball lineups will be your high-salary studs. These guys take up by far the biggest chunk of your cap space, but they also offer the highest ceiling. And in the case of pitchers, the high-salary options typically come with the highest floors, too.
For hitters, we're looking for guys with big numbers, strong matchups, and with players around them that are likely to produce well, too, increasing our chances for runs and RBI. For pitchers, we want big strikeout numbers, while the ability to go deep in a game and pick up a win is also valuable.
With your high-salary picks playing such a big role in your lineup, you need to be right on these guys, so let's take a look at a few top-end options you can count on to anchor your lineup today.
Cole Irvin, SP, Oakland Athletics ($8,300)
This is a really tough two-game main slate.
We want to lean into German Marquez of the Colorado Rockies, but oddsmakers really see his contest as a high-scoring game. Rockies/Nationals has an over/under of 11.5 runs at the FanDuel Sportsbook, and Marquez also has a 6.50 xFIP since August 1st. Oof.
While Cole Irvin may have struggled in the second half, allowing 1.46 HR/9, he has a pretty good opportunity ahead of him tonight. The Seattle Mariners continue to struggle at the plate, logging a .306 wOBA and .162 isolated power (ISO) over the last 30 days. This should come as no surprise from a team that's struggled at the plate basically all season.
Irvin tops our projections, and he makes for a solid play on a less than solid slate.
CJ Cron, 1B, Colorado Rockies ($3,800)
Slugger C.J. Cron gets to play his final three games at home this week in his first season for the Rockies, and he could add to his gaudy totals tonight.
This season, Cron has slammed 28 home runs and driven in 88 runs, and Josiah Gray may get a rude introduction in his first start of his MLB career at Coors Field. Gray has a FIP of 6.32 this season, and he enters a hitter's paradise with a 2.71 HR/9 this season. A 54.0% fly-ball rate is equally terrifying.
Cron could put up a crooked score tonight as one of Colorado's strongest bats.
Juan Soto, OF, Washington Nationals ($4,600)
Juan Soto has had a truly remarkable ending to the Washington Nationals' season.
Over the last month, the numbers honestly read like a Barry Bonds-redux. Soto has a .585 on-base percentage, 26 runs, 8 homers, 22 runs batted in, and for good measure, how about 3 steals as well? Soto has a .539 wOBA and .400 ISO against right-handed pitching since his team was dismantled at the trading deadline. Are you kidding me?
While Marquez has been really solid at home, facing a supernatural talent like Soto is not a great matchup. At a tremendous park, expect Soto to smoke the baseball tonight.
