Pitchers
Freddy Peralta ($10,400): Milwaukee's right-hander is today's most expensive option and the only pitcher attached with a five figure salary.
Despite inconsistent control last season, Peralta displayed an intriguing ceiling with an elite 14.5% swinging percentage, 33.6% strikeout rate, and 3.41 Skill Interactive Earned Run Average (SIERA) in 144.1 innings pitched.
In a matchup against an average hitting Cubs team with a low 6.4% walk rate and a .337 weighted on-base average (wOBA), the Brewers' hard-thrower is numberFire's top ranked pitcher with a 31.6 FanDuel point projection.
Zach Eflin ($8,000): Philadelphia's 28-year old starter is today's top value option with a 3.85 rating and a 30.8 FanDuel point projection.
Eflin will look to continue his successful 2020 after the right-hander produced a 3.81 SIERA and a 22.4% strikeout rate in 105.2 innings.
The Phillies have an ideal opportunity on Sunday afternoon against a lackluster Oakland squad with a 23.8% strikeout rate and a .264 weighted on-base average since 2019.
Steven Matz ($7,900): The Cardinals' lefty is another pitcher in a great spot against an underwhelming Pittsburgh team averaging a 24.6% strikeout percentage and a .319 weighted on-base average.
Coming off a rebound year last season where he recorded a 3.94 expected FIP and a 22.3% strikeout rate, Matz stands as today's third rated option with a 29.7 FanDuel points projection and 4.5 expected strikeouts.
Stacks
Spencer Howard will take the mound against a Toronto lineup implied for a slate-high 5.8 runs. Despite an above-average 10.5% swinging strike rate, the 25-year old right-hander struggled in his first big league season with a 4.80 SIERA and a 11.8% walk rate.
With slight reverse splits against a predominant right-hitting lineup, a stack can easily be made with Toronto's elite hitters: George Springer (15.4% barrel rate, .381 wOBA), Bo Bichette (9.9% barrel rate, .354 wOBA) , Vladimir Guerrero Jr (15.1% barrel rate, .419 wOBA) , and Teoscar Hernandez (9.4% barrel rate, .369 wOBA) as well as value options in Matt Chapman ($3,200), Lourdes Gurriel ($3,100), Santiago Espinal ($2,000), and Danny Jansen ($2,200)
Among today's 20 starting pitchers, Daulton Jefferies ranks 19th among the slate with a 4.94 Skill Interactive Earned Run Average and last with a 8.2% swinging strike rate.
Against a pitcher with a 12.7% strikeout rate, Philadelphia's stacked lineup offers of a variety of options including power bats such as Kyle Schwarber (17.5% barrel rate, .392 wOBA), Bryce Harper (18.1% barrel rate, .431 wOBA), Nick Castellanos (10.6% barrel rate, .391 wOBA) and salary savers in Bryson Stott ($2,200) and Matt Vierling ($2,100).
In an underrated matchup against Erick Fedde, MLB's top ranked offense could be overlooked despite a sneaky 5.2 implied total.
In 133.1 innings last season despite producing a 21.7% strikeout rate, the right-hander is likely due for some regression, registering the third worst swinging strike rate among today's pitchers with a 9.0% mark.
The Mets' lineup offers plenty of ways to take advantage of Fedde's trouble against lefties (.352 wOBA, 5.20 FIP) with Brandon Nimmo (.370 wOBA), Francisco Lindor (8.2% barrel rate), Robinson Cano (.376 wOBA), Eduardo Escobar (8.9% barrel rate), Dominic Smith ($2,100), and Jeff McNeil ($2,600).
