3 Daily Fantasy Baseball Stacks for Tuesday 4/26/22
Stacks are an integral part of daily fantasy baseball. They can push a team to the top of a GPP by driving upside. However, they're also viable in cash games, namely smaller (two-person or three-person) stacks that mitigate the volatility of a full four-person stack.
This article is your home throughout the 2022 Major League Baseball season for the day's top stacks. The primary goal is to identify the highest-scoring upside stack. Still, game theory will play a role in contrarian stacks making the cut as GPP options. Nevertheless, chalky stacks will make appearances in this space, too.
Beyond my analysis in this space, I strongly suggest numberFire premium members using our DFS Sharpstack tool and hitting heat map tool. The DFS Sharpstack helps plug stacks into optimized lineups, allowing you to change parameters and lock or exclude players and teams. Meanwhile, the heat map offers a one-stop-shop for the opposing starting pitcher, implied total, park factor, and other notable goodies.
Now, let's look at the top stacks on today's main slate.
Texas Rangers
The Texas Rangers are an enticing stack tonight, despite their early-season struggles. But, of course, that's what happens when opposing Jake Odorizzi. The veteran right-handed hurler has been an untameable dumpster fire this year. The 32-year-old righty has lasted just nine innings in three turns in 2022, getting blasted for a 9.00 ERA, 6.18 Expected ERA (xERA), and 6.26 Skill-Interactive ERA (SIERA).
Moreover, his struggles aren't a small-sample issue. According to FanGraphs, since 2020, he has had a 4.81 ERA, 4.92 Expected Fielding Independent Pitching (xFIP), 4.73 SIERA, and allowed 1.41 homers per nine innings. Odorizzi hasn't been any great shakes against righties, but he's been crushed by lefties for a .358 Weighted On-Base Average (wOBA) since last season.
As a result, Corey Seager ($2,800) is my favorite option. Since 2019, he has had a .370 OBP, .231 Isolated Power (ISO), and 137 Weighted Runs Created Plus (wRC+) against right-handed pitchers. Lefties Brad Miller ($2,600) and Nathaniel Lowe ($3,400) are also excellent options. Finally, Marcus Semien ($3,100), Mitch Garver ($2,500), and Adolis Garcia ($2,900) are high-upside picks, even without the platoon advantage.
Minnesota Twins
The Minnesota Twins have burned me repeatedly this year. Still, I'm happy to go back to the well against struggling Eduardo Rodriguez. This year, the 29-year-old southpaw has had a 5.27 ERA, 4.61 xERA, and 4.46 SIERA. Going back to last year, he's sitting on a 4.78 ERA in 171 and 1/3 innings.
Interestingly, E-Rod has been roughed up by lefties and righties. Since last year, he's yielded a .344 wOBA to lefties and a .333 wOBA to righties. Regardless, righties are where Minnesota's stack's bread is buttered.
It starts at the top with Byron Buxton ($3,900). In recent years, the only thing that has slowed the electrifying outfielder has been injuries. However, when he's on the diamond, he's amassed a .350 OBP, .299 ISO, and 157 wRC+ against southpaws since 2019. Additionally, this year, Buxton has been out of this world, mashing six taters with a .595 ISO, .415 OBP, and 296 wRC+ in 41 plate appearances.
Sadly, the guy popped ahead of Buxton in the 2012 MLB Amateur Draft as the top pick, Carlos Correa ($2,900) hasn't swung hot lumber like Buxton. Nevertheless, I'll jump on his track record of success with the platoon advantage in this matchup. Since 2019, he has had a 138 wRC+ against lefties.
Finally, the other hitter I'll explicitly call out is Gio Urshela ($2,600). He's hit in the heart of the order against lefties this year and knocked them around in recent years. Since 2019, he has had a 117 wRC+ against lefties.
Los Angeles Dodgers
The Los Angeles Dodgers are back in this space again. They have a mouthwatering matchup tonight with Zach Davies and the Arizona Diamondbacks' pitiful bullpen. Davies has had a 5.02 ERA and allowed 1.88 homers per nine innings this year. Further, since last year, he has had a 5.71 ERA, 4.94 xFIP, 5.27 SIERA, and allowed 1.55 homers per nine innings.
The beatings for the Diamondbacks are likely to ensue after Davies departs the contest. This year, The Diamondbacks have had the third-highest ERA (4.39) and highest xFIP (4.85). Thus, I can't resist stacking and touting a Dodgers stack tonight.
As usual, you can stack them from top to bottom. To that point, among the 12 active hitters on their roster, 10 have had a 103 wRC+ or higher against righties since 2019. Moreover, nine have had a 110 wRC+ against right-handed pitchers since 2019. Finally, Davies can be attacked with lefties or righties. Since 2021, lefties have had a .351 wOBA, and righties have had a .504 slugging and .372 wOBA against Davies.
