3 MLB FanDuel Studs to Target on Wednesday 9/14/22

Trea Turner has a tantalizing matchup on his hands tonight. Which other stars should be on our radar?

Just like in other sports, the focal point of your daily fantasy baseball lineups will be your high-salary studs. These guys take up by far the biggest chunk of your cap space, but they also offer the highest ceiling. And in the case of pitchers, the high-salary options typically come with the highest floors, too.

For hitters, we're looking for guys with big numbers, strong matchups, and with players around them that are likely to produce, as well, increasing our chances for runs and RBI. For pitchers, we want big strikeout numbers, while the ability to go deep in a game and pick up a win is also valuable.

With your high-salary picks playing such a big role in your lineup, you need to be right on these guys, so let's take a look at a few top-end options you can count on to anchor your lineup today.

David Peterson, SP, New York Mets ($8,200)

With David Peterson on the mound, he may not have a high salary, but he does draw our longing eyes in a plus matchup against the Chicago Cubs.

The Cubs are a very average offense, and we see that they are in the middle in many respects. They're 15th in team wOBA (.309), 18th in ISO (.150), and 21st in strikeout rate (23.6%).

If we dive into the Cubs a bit closer, the numbers over the last two weeks are even more egregious. They have struck out at a 26.3% clip, paired with only a .309 wOBA.

Peterson will struggle with his control at times, but his 27.6% strikeout rate gives him plenty of upside in this matchup. He is projected for a slate-high 33.9 FanDuel points and could be a slam dunk play tonight.

Trea Turner, SS, Los Angeles Dodgers ($4,100)

Zach Davies has been absolutely horrible in the second half of the season this year, and there's really no metric I can point to that makes me anything but excited to roster the Los Angeles Dodgers tonight.

In the second half of the year, he's allowed 1.96 HR/9, and he's actually been hit harder by righties this season, allowing a 32.6% hard-hit rate and 38.7% fly-ball rate to same-sided batters.

Trea Turner is clearly a hitter that we love today, and he's been great in this split with a 123 wRC+ in 2022. Load up on him tonight.

Marcus Semien, 2B, Texas Rangers ($3,700)

While Oakland Athletics left-hander JP Sears got off to a strong run, he was blasted in his last start, and there are some warts we need to examine here.

Over 51 1/3 innings pitched, Sears has been generating a pile of ground-balls, but his 16.0% strikeout rate and 41.3% fly-ball rate seem to be outweighing his tidy 3.33 ERA. While lefties have done absolutely nothing, righties have been strong by producing 1.29 HR/9, a 36.8% hard-hit rate, and a 43.6% fly-ball rate.

It hasn't been the best first season in Texas, but Marcus Semien has still performed well in the second half, logging a 122 wRC+ and 46.2% fly-ball rate in this timeframe.

Don't sleep on Semien and the Rangers tonight.
