3 Daily Fantasy Baseball Stacks for Wednesday 10/5/22

The Brewers might not be headed to the playoffs, but they have a chance to exit 2022 with an offensive showcase. Which other offenses should you target?

Stacks are an integral part of daily fantasy baseball. They can push a team to the top of a GPP by driving upside. However, they're also viable in cash games, namely smaller (two-person or three-person) stacks that mitigate the volatility of a full four-person stack.

This article is your home throughout the 2022 Major League Baseball season for the day's top stacks. The primary goal is to identify the highest-scoring upside stack. Still, game theory will play a role in contrarian stacks making the cut as GPP options. Nevertheless, chalky stacks will make appearances in this space, too.

Now, let's look at the top stacks on today's main slate that starts on FanDuel at 4:00 pm ET.

Los Angeles Angels

The Los Angeles Angels can end the season on a high note at the dish against a struggling rookie.

Ken Waldichuk has made six starts for the Oakland Athletics. Sadly, according to FanGraphs, he's had a 6.18 ERA, 5.04 Expected ERA (xERA), and allowed 1.63 homers per nine innings. Sometimes, it takes a bit for prospects to gain their footing in the majors, which is the case for Waldichuk.

The rookie lefty has been entirely lost against righties. He's coughed up a .624 slugging and .420 wOBA to 96 right-handed batters in The Show. In addition, Oakland's bullpen is dreadful, ranking in the bottom-10 in ERA. Therefore, the Angels can tee off today.

Mike Trout ($4,400) is the must-use player in this stack. Since 2020, he's had a .407 OBP, .237 ISO, and 155 wRC+ against southpaws. Luis Rengifo ($2,400) and Taylor Ward ($3,700) are also attractive selections, batting leadoff and cleanup, respectively.

Milwaukee Brewers

The Milwaukee Brewers don't have a cakewalk today. Still, Merrill Kelly hasn't been a world-beater. The veteran righty has a 3.43 ERA, notably lower than his 3.89 xFIP. Kelly has also struggled immensely lately.

In Kelly's last five starts, he's had a 6.67 ERA and 4.43 xFIP. Kelly has also coughed up multiple homers in four of his last five turns. Thus, Milwaukee's power-packed lineup has power-chasing appeal.

Since I suggest chasing power, Willy Adames ($3,800) and Rowdy Tellez ($2,800) are my favorite options from the Brewers. Adames has had a .275 ISO at home against righties since the Brewers traded for him last year. Meanwhile, since the Brewers acquired him last season, Tellez has had a .295 ISO at home against righties. Finally, Kolten Wong ($2,700) is another player I love to use in this stack.

Kansas City Royals

The Kansas City Royals are a tournament stack.

They're unlikely to be popular against Aaron Civale. The 27-year-old righty has been in a groove. Still, he's had a 5.04 ERA in 19 starts this season.

Civale's had lower ERA estimators than his ERA this season. So, he's been unlucky. Still, when it's ugly for Civale, it's truly wretched. He's allowed six runs three separate times this season. Further, if Civale struggles today, the Cleveland Guardians might let him take it on the chin or use some of their worst relievers instead of expending meaningful relievers to soak up innings before the playoffs.

As a result, I dig the Royals today. I'm most enamored with Vinnie Pasquantino ($2,500), Bobby Witt Jr. ($3,800), and Drew Waters ($2,000). Pasquantino has had a 134 wRC+ in his rookie campaign. Witt has had a modest 100 wRC+ in his first year in The Show. Yet, he's also slugged 20 homers and stolen 30 bases. So, Witt has a FanDuel-friendly profile. Finally, Waters has tapped into previously unseen power since the Royals traded for him.
