Jake Arrieta gets the Mets tonight at Wrigley in a game showing the Cubbies as favorites. Arrieta is capable of striking out batters, pitching to a 9.24 strikeout rate per nine already this season, which is actually down from last year. The Mets are a little above average in terms of strikeout rate against righties, but in the split, they have the fifth-worst wOBA in baseball. Even if Arrieta fans just five or six batters, he should be fine tonight in a slate that's filled with bad pitchers.
The other pitcher in today's lineup is AJ Burnett, who will look for some revenge against the Philadelphia team that rostered him a year ago. The Phillies have an average strikout rate against right-handers, and are hitting to just a .259 wOBA when facing righties. Burnett, meanwhile, has Vegas on his side as a pretty big favorite, and is pitching to a pretty solid 3.22 FIP this season.
The lineup features a couple of Washington bats, which makes sense considering they're squaring off against Rubby De La Rosa in a hitter's park in Arizona. The game has a high 8.5 run over/under, and the Nationals are expected to score over 4.5 of those. Bryce Harper with the platoon advantage could be huge.
We've also got Freddie Freeman tonight against Anthony DeSclafani, giving him (Freeman) the platoon advantage as well. Against righties in his career, Freeman has a .381 wOBA and .199 ISO, far better than what he sees against lefties. Don't let DeSclafani's 2.50 ERA throw you off, either -- he's got a 4.06 FIP thanks to a lot of luck in the BABIP department.
