3 Daily Fantasy Baseball Hitters to Avoid on 8/4/16

As is the case in most daily fantasy sports, finding information on players you might want to roster is a lot easier than finding players to avoid.

While you can get away with a zero from a hitter in daily fantasy, you certainly don't want to target guys whose matchups aren't enticing.

Here are three hitters you may want to lessen your exposure to or even fade altogether on Thursday.

Kyle Seager, 3B, Seattle Mariners

FanDuel Price: $3,200

Kyle Seager has been in a slump recently, going 4-for-24 since his last big day in late July. The Mariners’ lefty has been playing against lefties more recently, but if he is in the lineup tonight against Drew Pomeranz, it might be best to look elsewhere for a third baseman.

Pomeranz has been very good against left-handed hitters, holding them to a .275 wOBA. Pomeranz has only allowed one homer to a left-hander this season, giving him a home-runs-per-nine-innings mark of just 0.30.

Seager has just a .273 wOBA against left-handed pitchers this season. His ISO drops from .275 against righties to .163 against southpaws. Even though Pomeranz's strikeout numbers drop against lefties, Seager still looks like a player to avoid in this one.

Nick Hundley, C, Colorado Rockies

FanDuel Price: $3,000

Nick Hundley has been a nice source of pop from the catching spot for Colorado when he's been healthy this season and even though he isn't posting a .301 average like last year, he still has 5 homers and 14 doubles in less than 200 at bats this season. However, his splits against right-handers have been a little concerning, and with Dodgers’ hurler Kenta Maeda on the hill, Hundley is a player to avoid Thursday.

Hundley has only a .307 wOBA against right-handers this season, and his ISO drops over 60 points to .151 against them.

Maeda has been very good in his first season, and right-handers have had a lot of trouble against the 28-year-old, sporting a meager .258 wOBA against him. Maeda has a 28.5% strikeout rate against righties this year, and his walk rate against them plummets to 3.8%.

Alex Bregman, 3B, Houston Astros

FanDuel Price: $2,300

The Astros’ top prospect has all of eight games in the major leagues so far, and it has not gone well at the plate for the young third baseman. He has only one major league hit and while it's going to turn around for him eventually, he is likely a player to avoid tonight with a matchup against J.A. Happ

Happ, a lefty, has been solid this season, and he has some reverse splits. Righties owns a .293 wOBA and 22.2% strikeout rate against Happ.

Obviously, we can't really pull anything meaningful from Alex Bregman's microscopic sample size of 26 at bats, but his 29.4% strikeout rate is pretty ugly. It's probably best to sit back and wait until Bregman gives you a reason to roster him.
