Robinson Cano unhappy with Mariners, wants back to Yankees

Seattle Mariners second baseman Robison Cano is unhappy in Seattle and would "love to somehow find his way back to New York," according to John Harper of the New York Daily News, who was told so by "a long-time friend" of Cano.

What It Means:

Unfortunately for Cano, he's likely stuck in Seattle. He signed a 10-year, $240 million free agent contract with the Mariners in December 2013. Further muddying the waters were claims from former major leaguer Andy Van Slyke, who recently criticized Cano of "loafing" and getting coaches and executives fired. Due to his massive contract, and the Mariners planing to compete next season, Cano is doubtful to be traded.

Cano hit .287/.334/.446, with a .335 wOBA and 21 home runs in 156 games this season. This would be considered a productive season for many, but since Cano posted an average wOBA of .367 during his time with the Yankees, while hitting .309/.355/.504, it was his worst season since 2008. A change of scenery probably couldn't hurt, but Cano will very likely be in a Mariners jersey coming opening day.
