Max Scherzer (suspension) returning to Mets rotation Wednesday
New York Mets pitcher Max Scherzer is scheduled to return from his 10-game suspension Wednesday and start versus the Detroit Tigers, per manager Buck Showalter.
Scherzer is eligible to return from suspension on Monday, but due to rainouts over the weekend, he will have to wait a couple more days. Justin Verlander (shoulder) is expected to make his season debut on Thursday and Kodai Senga is penciled in for Friday's series opener against the Colorado Rockies.
numberFire's models project Scherzer to score 28.2 FanDuel points on Wednesday. He is averaging 27.6 FanDuel points this season in non-ejected starts while showing some signs of regression. The 38-year-old right-hander has career-worsts in hard-hit rate (39.2%), walk rate (11.7%), and homers allowed per nine innings (1.86). His strikeout rate (22.1%) is the second-lowest of Scherzer's career and his worst since 2011 with the Detroit Tigers.
