Justin Verlander returning to Astros in trade with Mets
The Houston Astros acquired starting pitcher Justin Verlander from the New York Mets in exchange for minor-league players Drew Waters and Ryan Clifford on Tuesday.
What It Means:
Verlander signed with the Mets in free agency last December after winning his second World Series and second Cy Young with the Astros in 2022. The 40-year-old right-hander has showed some regression this season, but he's still capable of helping the Astros win another championship.
Verlander averaged 30.9 FanDuel points and went 6-5 in 16 games for the Mets this season. He registered a 3.15 ERA and 3.29 xERA, with a 39.6% hard-hit rate, 21.0% strikeout rate, and 8.0% walk rate. His hard-hit rate (34.8%) and walk rate (4.4%) are both up from last year while his strikeout rate (27.8%) is down.
