Cardinals place Matt Carpenter (oblique) on disabled list
The St. Louis Cardinals have placed infielder Matt Carpenter on the 15-day disabled list after suffering a right oblique strain on Wednesday.
Carpenter exited the game in the third inning after a check-swing left him in obvious pain. Cardinals manager Mike Matheny reports a "high level of concern" about the amount of time this may cause Carpenter to miss, which would be a big blow to the Cardinals' lineup.
Carpenter is sporting a massive .414 wOBA and .270 ISO on the year, while his 3.50 nERD ranks fifth in the majors. He's logged 14 jacks and 53 RBI's with a .568 slugging percentage across 351 appearances at the plate.
