Diamondbacks' Zack Greinke continues to struggle with velocity
Arizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Zack Greinke surrendered three earned runs over four innings Tuesday in his final Cactus League outing against the Seattle Mariners.
Greinke hovered around 88-89 miles per hour (mph) with his fastball and topped out at 90.4 mph, according to beat writer Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic. It's an alarming sign of decline for a 33-year-old right-hander who averaged 91.3 mph on that pitch in 2016 and 91.8 mph in 2015.
numberFire's algorithms project Greinke to record a 3.69 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 21.5 strikeout percentage across 183 innings in 2017 while earning a 13-10 record.
