Charlie Morton lands on Astros' DL with strained lat
The Houston Astros placed pitcher Charlie Morton on the 10-day disabled list, retroactive to May 25, with a strained right lat.
Morton evidently must have suffered the injury during his last start or perhaps his between-starts bullpen session. Either way, he's going to be sidelined for a while. Mike Fiers had been slated to head to the bullpen, but he should be given a temporary reprieve now.
Morton has tossed 57 2/3 innings this year, earning himself a 4.06 ERA (3.59 SIERA), 25.8 percent strikeout rate, and 9.1 percent walk rate over that span. His DL stint helps Fiers infinitely more than anything else, who has struggled his way to a 5.21 ERA (4.55 SIERA), 18.4 percent strikeout rate, and 8.2 percent walk rate across 46 2/3 innings.
