3 Under-the-Radar Daily Fantasy Basketball Plays for 1/27/17
Nicolas Batum, SG, Charlotte Hornets
FanDuel Price: $7,100
Why He Will Go Overlooked:
Nicolas Batum burned several daily fantasy players just four days ago, and recency bias could keep his ownership down as a part of a deep shooting guard position. James Harden, Dwyane Wade, and Dion Waiters seem poised to pace the position in this respect.
Why You Should Use Him:
Batum reminded us all of his maddening inconsistency, totaling 19.4 FanDuel points in a solid matchup against the Washington Wizards on Monday. However, he's played quite well recently outside of that performance. Excluding that game, he's averaged 34 FanDuel points over his past five. He's also played huge minutes for the Charlotte Hornets with Jeremy Lamb out of the lineup, playing 38 minutes in back-to-back games and averaging 35.5 over his past six games.
While he is likely to see low ownership, it is not for lack of an advantageous matchup. He draws the New York Knicks, who have allowed the third-most FanDuel points to opposing shooting guards this season. Courtney Lee, who isn't a quality defender, has recently been forced into heavy minutes at shooting guard, which should also benefit Batum. On the year, Lee's -0.62 DRPM ranks 48th at the position.
Batum is always a wild card, so he shouldn't go anywhere near cash-game lineups with plenty of options at his position. However, he has considerable upside in this matchup and should carry minimal ownership, making him an excellent tournament play.
