3 Under-the-Radar Daily Fantasy Basketball Plays for 3/2/17
Alex Abrines, SG, Oklahoma City Thunder
FanDuel Price: $3,500
Why He Will Go Overlooked:
Alex Abrines is rarely a popular daily fantasy option, and with a slate that includes the likes of Batum, Dwyane Wade, C.J. McCollum, and Klay Thompson, that isn't likely to change tonight.
Why You Should Use Him:
Abrines has taken on a larger role for the Oklahoma City Thunder with Victor Oladipo sidelined, starting and playing 30 minutes per game in their past three. Oladipo is reportedly progressing well, but his status for tonight's game against the Portland Trail Blazers is still in question.
If Oladipo is forced to sit again, Abrines will likely be looking at around 30 minutes against a Portland team that has allowed the fourth-most FanDuel points to opposing shooting guards. He will likely spend the majority of his time being defended by McCollum or Allen Crabbe, who rank 85th and 97th, respectively, among 97 shooting guards in DRPM.
Portland has also really struggled to defend the perimeter, allowing the third-highest three-point percentage (37.8%) to opponents. Abrines can stroke from downtown, shooting 39.4% this season, and he ranks 13th among qualified shooters in made three-pointers per 36 minutes. If given minutes, he should have no trouble taking advantage of Portland's lackadaisical perimeter defense.
If Oladipo suits up, Abrines isn't worth consideration. But if he's out, Abrines has some value as a salary-saving option on this small slate. Give him a look in tournaments, as he could definitely get hot in this matchup.
