The 10 Worst NBA Teams of This Century

1. Charlotte Bobcats, 2011-12

nERD: 5.6

In the Charlotte Bobcats' eighth year as an expansion team and sixth year under the minority control of owner Michael Jordan, they concluded the season at 7-59 in a shortened NBA season. They're the only team on this list to win single-digit games (albeit they didn't play a full season) and the only one with a single digit nERD. In fact, they're the only team below a nERD of 15, for that matter.

Exactly how bad were they? Defensively, the Bobcats (110.4) were 5.8 points worse than the league-average defensive rating. While that number ranked last, they were much worse than last in terms of offensive rating, producing just 95.2 points per 100 possessions -- or 9.4 points below the NBA's average in 2011.

This all came via a poorly-assembled roster. Whether you blame Jordan or not is entirely irrelevant, but Charlotte had just two players with at least 1.0 win shares. Derrick Brown led the team with 2.3, and their coveted rookie Kemba Walker contributed just 0.3. That's the makeup of the worst team in the last 16 years.
