The 10 Worst NBA Teams of This Century
T4. Portland Trail Blazers, 2005-06
nERD: 18.7
Prior to a franchise rebuild with the likes of LaMarcus Aldridge, Brandon Roy and soon thereafter Nicolas Batum and Damian Lillard, the Portland Trail Blazers were a franchise on the decline. After 20 straight years of playoff seasons, the Blazers had missed two the postseason twice in a row and saw their win total go from 50 to 27 in the three years prior.
In 2005, the fall was complete. The Blazers went 21-61 and lost at least six straight on four different occasions throughout the season. Under first-year head coach Nate McMillan, they were 5.1 points below league average in terms of offensive efficiency and 5.7 points worth than league average by measure of defensive efficiency.
This shouldn't be very surprising. The Blazers' best player, by measure of win shares, was Steve Blake, who accumulated just 2.8 win shares in a total of 1,781 minutes and 68 games.
