2017 NBA Mock Draft: Who Each Lottery Team Should Pick
9. Dallas Mavericks: Zach Collins, PF/C
Team needs: Point guard/center production, inside scoring, rim protection
The Dallas Mavericks have said it's a top priority to re-sign Nerlens Noel, but just because the Mavs want Noel doesn't mean Noel wants the Mavs, so there's always the possibility he'll be gone by summer's end.
Even if they don't sign Noel, adding a big through the draft would be a lot cheaper than offering a sizable contract to an established player. Enter Zach Collins, a versatile seven-footer out of Gonzaga, where he averaged 32.6 points, 19.2 rebounds and 5.8 blocks per 100 possessions in limited minutes (17.3 per game).
Don't read too much into Collins' low minutes total -- he's the inside scorer and rim protector the Mavs have been looking for. In addition to all the blocked shots, the freshman converted 10.5 of 15.6 two-point attempts per 100 at an efficient rate, a 67.6% effective field goal percentage. That's a welcome sight for a team that was outplayed by an average margin of 2.7 by measure of PER.
