NBA Draft Prospects: Top 5 Wings
4. Jonathan Isaac, Florida State Seminoles
Up until the last few weeks, Isaac was a middle-of-the-lottery prospect, but that was then and this is now. According to Draft Express' most latest mock draft, he's expected to go ahead of the more highly-touted Monk.
No matter where he lands, though, Isaac will fit right into today's NBA. At a freakishly long 6'11", his body compares to that of Kevin Durant or Giannis Antetokounmpo, and with the ability to play the three or four, Isaac is exactly what NBA general managers are looking for.
While it's true that Isaac wasn't blazing down the nets in Tallahassee, he did average a trey per game on 34.8% shooting from downtown, an impressive feat for an NBA player of his size.
But, with Isaac, there's much more to him than the ability to stretch the floor. In his short time at FSU, he grabbed 12 rebounds and swatted 2.3 blocks per 40 minutes of action. In spite of limited time on the floor, Isaac ranked in the top 8 in the ACC in defensive rebounds, rebounds and blocks.
But even with the most promising incoming rookies, it's not all sunshine and rainbows. This time, though, it has nothing to do with production -- with Isaac, it's all about whether 839 minutes is a large enough sample size. The trio of Jackson, Tatum and Monk all averaged at least 30 minutes a game for three of the nation's most highly-regarded, battle-tested programs, so scouts know what they're all about. Isaac, on the other hand -- with his 26.2 minutes a night -- is more of a question mark.
Ultimately, Isaac's Draft spot will come down to a franchise's willingness to choose upside over sample size, and the Orlando Magic at six might just be that team.
