2017 NBA Mock Draft 2.0: How Should the First Round Play Out?
13. Denver Nuggets: Jarrett Allen, C
Team needs: Point guard play, forcing turnovers, rim protection.
By math, point guard was, by far, Denver's worst position in 2016-17. What makes matters worse is that, with Ntilikina off the board, there's no adequate point guard prospects worth selecting (or even reaching for) here.
In that case, we turn to Denver's in ability to protect the rim, where they allowed 51.9% and effective field goal percentage of 53.2% this season. With just four blocks per game, they finished off the year ranked 27th in that category as well.
Texas' Jarrett Allen is a good addition at this draft position. Not only did Allen deter 2.8 opponents per 100 possessions, but he also posted a PER of 20.2 with 24.3 points per 100 possessions. His balance of above-average offense and shot-blocking defense makes him an ideal candidate for the Denver Nuggets' second unit center (behind Nikola Jokic, of course).
