3 NBA DraftKings Value Plays to Target on 2/6/18
Jarrett Allen, PF/C, Brooklyn Nets
DraftKings Salary: $5,300
The Brooklyn Nets have turned to Jarrett Allen as their starting center in recent games, and he has responded well. Over his past seven outings, Allen is averaging 26.2 DraftKings points in 22.5 minutes. In four games as the starter, those numbers have risen to 24.3 minutes and 27.4 DraftKings points.
His price has risen to reflect the recent outburst, and at this salary, Allen needs 26.5 DraftKings points to hit 5 points per every $1,000 in salary. He's shown the upside to easily exceed that, which makes him worth a look in tournaments. However, it is worth noting that Allen's season-long DraftKings points per minute (0.92), while impressive, does not match up with the production (1.16) we've seen over his past seven games. While it is possible that Allen is simply continuing his development and will average over a DraftKings point per minute going forward, it is just as likely that we'll see some regression coming soon.
Even at his season average of 0.92 DraftKings points per minute, Allen would hit value -- 5 points per every $1,000 in salary -- tonight in 29 minutes of playing time. If he is able to replicate his recent per-minute production, he won't need nearly as much playing time.
While Clint Capela is an effective shot blocker, the Houston Rockets have struggled defensively on the interior. They've allowed the third-most points from within five feet of the goal as well as the second-highest shooting percentage. That area of the floor is where Allen lives, as over 80% of his scoring has come from that range.
The elevated price tag and apparent inability to push for 30-plus minutes makes Allen a tough sell for cash games, but he definitely has the upside to smash in tournaments.
