3 NBA FanDuel Studs to Target on 2/22/18
Stephen Curry, PG, Golden State Warriors
Price: $9,300
This is a spot that does carry a serious risk of a blowout. The Golden State Warriors are favored by 10.5 over the Los Angeles Clippers, but their 121.75-point implied total is also the slate's highest by a big margin. Stephen Curry is priced way down compared to a lot of the other studs in play tonight, and while he risks seeing reduced minutes in a one-sided game, his upside means he's worth the risk.
Curry's fantasy production has been down lately, but a closer look at those games doesn't reveal any reason for long-term concern. Nine games ago, he went off for a huge 66.3 FanDuel points. Since then, six of his eight games have been decided by at least 15 points (he didn't crack 32 minutes in any of those), but we're already acknowledging the blowout risk tonight, and that doesn't affect his upside if this one does stay close. His other two games saw him shoot only .424 from the field and .364 from three-point range. With a .490 field goal percentage and .413 three-point percentage on the season, those shaky numbers over a two-game sample are hardly concerning -- especially when he attempted 16 and 17 field goals (including 12 and 10 triples) in those contests.
He's also contributing well across the rest of the stat sheet this season, averaging 6.5 assists, 5.2 boards, and 1.6 steals per game.
The savings you get over a top-tier stud like LeBron or Westbrook aren't enough to make Curry a strong cash-game option, where you're looking for a level of consistency that he doesn't offer tonight, but the huge upside makes him a very strong tournament play.
