Burning Questions: Who Has Been the MVP of the NBA So Far This Season?
Chris Paul, Los Angeles Clippers
Brett Oswalt's take:
Chris Paul might be having the best season that almost no one is talking about -- except for Melissa Rohlin and yours truly. On the season, the Clipper point man is averaging 18.4 points, 10.1 assists and 4.8 rebounds per game. And just take a look at how he ranks in these efficiency categories:
nERD | PER | Win Shares | WS/48 | VORP |
---|---|---|---|---|
4th | 6th | 3rd | 4th | 4th |
CP3's numbers may be impressive, but that alone doesn't make him the MVP I believe him to be. Without sidekick Blake Griffin for the last 14 games, Paul is averaging an outstanding 21.2 points and 12.3 assists per game -- and the Clippers are winning. They're 9-5 in that 14-game span and have moved up to number two in our power rankings with Griffin's absence.
Now I know Chris Paul won't win the MVP, but he should. He has fallen victim to his own consistent success over the course of his career. I'm just saying if there's ever been a year that he's deserved it, it's this one.
