NBA Free Agency Preview: 10 Lesser Talked About Names
Wesley Matthews
Before Wesley Matthews (4.6 nERD) went down with a ruptured Achilles tendon at the beginning of March, he would have been one of the most wined and dined free agents on the 2015 market. Nearly four months later, Matthews isn't being viewed in the same light -- but he should be. At age 28, Matthews is one of the best 3 and D wings in the game and proved it last season.
He gambled on himself to get a big deal this summer, refusing the Blazers' low-ball contract extension, and until his unfortunate injury, Wes was having an exceptional season. The man with the on-court bow and arrow finished the season with 15.9 points per game on 44.8% from the field and 38.9% from three for an Effective Field Goal Percentage of 56.3%, the highest of his career. Matthews also got it done on the defensive end with over a steal a game while earning a Defensive Rating of 105. Elite shooting guards like Matthews don't just grow on trees.
Matthews is still seeking a big deal worth about $15 million annually, and he could get it. However, his suitors might be a little fewer at that price tag. If the Blazers don't decide to retain the heart and soul of their team, Matthews could fit in nicely in Dallas or even a place like Miami if Dwyane Wade leaves South Beach.
