The Best of the Best
Kobe Bryant - To be fair, the Warriors have been playing better defense recently; their team defensive rating has risen from around 20th in the NBA to its current 14th in just about three weeks. That doesn't mean, though, that they're not prone to big games. In their last two games alone, the Warriors have allowed 23 points to SG Cartier Martin of Washington and 16 points to a not-even-starting Manu Ginobili. Now imagine how Kobe and his NBA-leading 32.0 percent usage rate will do...
Dwyane Wade - 26th in defensive rating, 25th in defensive effective field goal percentage (eFG%), 30th in turnovers forced rate, and now, Arron Afflalo is likely out for the rest of the season with Beno Udrih's 112 defensive rating as his likely replacement. I already would strongly consider any shooting guard going against the Orlando Magic; the fact that it's Dwyane Wade doing the honors tonight is extra sweet.
Al Jefferson - To say that the Sixers big men have been weak this season is a bit of an understatement; opposing centers have shot .513 eFG% and outrebounded them by 1.6 boards per 48 minutes this season. Big Al will be the latest to go against the Sixers, and it's been a great time recently for him as well. He has posted at least 15 points in three straight games and 10 rebounds in three of his last four.
Top Mid-Range Values
Klay Thompson - It's not too often that the Warriors get to run with teams that have a faster pace than them, but in the Lakers and their third-quickest pace in the NBA, they seem to have met their match. The extra possessions should prove invaluable for Klay Thompson, especially considering Metta World Peace's 106 defensive rating and the Lakers' .517 eFG% allowed to opposing small forwards. Stephen Curry's game-time decision status doesn't hurt Thompson either; he could see even more plays come his way tonight.
Ryan Anderson - In speaking of having to keep up with quick teams, the New Orleans Hornets play the Nuggets and their second-quickest pace tonight. With Grievis Vasquez sidelined, it's probably not good for New Orleans that they'll have to run, but one guy who should take full advantage is Anderson. Anderson leads New Orleans qualified players with a 24.0 percent usage rate, and he has 21 and 16 points in two games against the Nuggets already this season.
Kyle O'Quinn - No, this is not a typo: Kyle O'Quinn is one of the best values across the board today. Starting in place of the injured Nikola Vucevic, it's been O'Quinn who has picked up the rebounding slack in Orlando's past two games. With 14 boards against the Knicks and 9 boards against the Thunder, replicating those numbers against a weak rebounding team like the Heat should be a piece of cake. The only question for O'Quinn is whether he'll continue to get the minutes, but two straight games of at least 25 minutes played is a solid indicator that he will.
