Jeimer Candelario (thumb) scratched for Nationals Sunday; Ildemaro Vargas enters
Washington Nationals infielder Jeimer Candelario has been scratched Sunday in the team's game against the St. Louis Cardinals.
A thumb issue popped up for Candelario during pregame, and he has now been removed from the lineup. Ildemaro Vargas will take over at third base, batting seventh in the order versus Cardinals starter Jack Flaherty.
In 363 plate appearances this season, Candelario has a .260 batting average with an .813 OPS, 13 home runs, 46 runs and 43 RBI.
