Ian Mahinmi out 4-6 weeks for Washington with torn meniscus
Washington Wizards center Ian Mahinmi had surgery on Friday to repair a partially torn medial meniscus in his left knee, and he will be sidelined for 4-6 weeks.
Mahinmi signed with the Wizards this offseason for $64 million to provide some depth at center behind Marcin Gortat. However, Mahinmi was feeling some knee soreness during training camp and this explains why. Jason Smith will serve as the team's backup center until Mahinmi's return.
Mahinmi posted career highs in a contract year last season with an effective field goal percentage of .589. He also had career bests in 9.3 points and 5.2 rebounds in 25.6 minutes per game.
