7. Elton Brand, Duke Blue Devils (1998-99)

In his second year in Durham, Elton Brand was a force down low. He led the team with 17.7 points per game to go with 9.8 rebounds and 2.2 blocks in 29.3 minutes per matchup.

Brand finished the season with a true shooting percentage of 64.9% on his way to exactly 10.0 win shares -- 5.0 offensively and 5.0 defensively. In 40 minutes, that amounted to .351 win shares per 40 minutes and Player of the Year honors.

The Blue Devils ran through the regular season with a 37-2 record before another showing in the national final. This time, though, Brand's efforts weren't enough as Duke fell to Connecticut by three points.
