Which Conference Is Best Represented in This Year's NCAA Tournament?
Honorable Mention: MWC
The Mountain West Conference was this close to making the article, as Colorado State was projected as a lower seed, according to our power rankings, before all the tournament selections were completed on Sunday. Our own Brett Oswalt made a case for them to be in the big dance, but they were one of the first teams out instead.
Where would the conference have ranked if they did make it, you ask?
The Mountain West had some decent teams make the dance. Wyoming won the automatic bid for winning the conference tournament, and was placed as a 12 seed. But they only have a 3.74 nERD. San Diego State and Boise State were two of the higher profile teams from this conference, and both finished in the top 55 in our power rankings with a 9.91 and 8.71 nERD, respectively.
Colorado State only had a 7.38 nERD, and the conference would have only had a 7.44 average nERD for the rankings, so maybe it's a good thing Colorado State was left out of the NCAA tournament.
